In yet more unwelcome news for the Labour party, Ken Livingston and his supporters, both PolliticalBetting.com and the FT blog are reporting that the Irish bookmaker Paddy Power has started paying out on Boris Johnson winning in the mayoral race. Despite the fact that there is still many hours of vote counting left, and no official declaration.
According to most political experts, Boris Johnson is pretty much guaranteed to win the election. “The Conservative candidate is understood to be benefiting from a large turnout in the capital’s outer suburbs with the Tories now confident of what would be a major success.”
Speaking on GMTV this morning, Labour deputy leader and London MP Harriet Harman said “We expect that national situation is going to be reflected in London.”
Londoners face a long wait to discover the winner of the mayoral contest after the polls closed on Thursday night.
Counting began at three venues at 8.30am this morning with the results due to be announced in the early evening.
